William Lee Long, known to family and friends as Bill, passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2026.
Bill was born on August 23, 1951, to Clancy and Louise Long and was raised on the Southside of Indianapolis, Indiana. He graduated from Southport High School in 1969, where he participated in the band, cross country, and track and field.
Following high school, Bill served six years in the Air Force Reserves. He went on to build a career as a computer programmer and manager with RCA and BMG, dedicating many years to his profession.
Bill shared 52 years of marriage with his wife, Kimberly. Together, they built a life and family filled with memories and lasting connections. He was a proud father to Nathan (Shelly), Tom (Chandella), and LeAnn Hagmann, and a loving grandfather to Emma (Dustin), Clancy, Mason, Grant, Whitney, Jackson (Kylie), Kaitlyn, Alex, Olivia, Owen, and Liberty. His family was an important part of his life, and his legacy will live on through the generations who carry his memories forward.
Bill is survived by his wife, Kim; his children and grandchildren; and his sisters, Linda Rooze, Lois (George) Wolfla, and Nancy (Dan) Matthews.
Bill had a gift for words and a quick wit, especially when it came to lovingly talking trash with family. Whether competing in the family’s Final Four tournament bracket or bantering with his grandchildren. His playful spirit and good-natured teasing were part of what made him so special, creating memories his family will cherish for years to come.
Bill was a member of The Table Fellowship Church, where he found fellowship and community. He will be remembered with love by his extended family and friends.
Family and friends are invited to a casual gathering to celebrate Bill’s life on Saturday, October 31, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Westside Park Shelter House, 820 W. Main Street, Greenwood, Indiana. Join us to share stories, memories, and a few laughs in honor of Bill and the many ways he touched our lives.
