Beloved father and dearest husband, William James Hinesley Jr., 82, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2024, with family by his side.
He was the eldest son of William James Sr. and Mabel Geneieve Hinesley, born on December 24, 1941, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Bill is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rosemarie (McCarty) Hinesley, whom he married on July 12, 1963; children, David Eugene, Richard Lee (Melissa), William J. III, Nancy Anne Wright, and Rosemarie Julian (Kevin). He was grandfather to thirteen grandchildren, Billy, Tassy Kirkpatrick, Nathan, Shana Kneib (Jason), Rachel Dillow (Jeff), William J. IV (Carolina), Micheal (Thae), Sarah Helber (Rob), Morgan Wright, Luke Wright, Bryan Julian (Andrea), Cody Julian and Matthew Julian; great grandfather to Annlee, Jasper, Grayson, Sam, Richie, Alex, Avia, Abe, Aaron, Louise, Gwyneth, Joanna; siblings, Steve, Mike and Karen Gann.
Preceded in death by four siblings: Daniel, David, Joyce Hatfield, and Diane Holtz; and his parents.
He graduated from IUPUI in 1982 with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. “Go Purdue!”
Active in his community, Bill earned his Life and God and Country badge in Life Scout, Den Dad at University Heights Christian Church, volunteer Firefighter for Perry Township Fire Department, umpire with Center Grove Little and Lassie League Programs for 10 years.
A family historian, he took great pride in researching not only our family ancestors and origins but also many others through the Marion County Genealogy Society.
Starting his career at Chrysler Automotive and upon completing his degree he was employed with and retired from IUPUI from the University Information Technology System Department with over 25 years of service. Not content to stay at home, he continued his calling by helping others at H&R Blocks for 16 years. He enjoyed working with people.
During his lifetime, Bill participated in Southport Masonic Lodge, the Shriners, Scottish Rite, and a Deacon at Mt. Pleasant Christian Church, and Elder at Rocklane Christian Church. Where he started the Rock of Ages (over 55) fellowship group. Rock of Ages grew to over 130 members. As an elder he worked with the congregation to help them find their purpose in serving God. This group gave him much joy as well as serving those who were shut in, serving communion, and sharing the love of Christ. He was a quiet and kind man. He leaves behind a legacy as a strong family man who loved the Lord and serving his community. He will be missed.
Visitation is Friday, January 26, 2024, 9:00 am until 11:00 am at Rocklane Christian Church, Greenwood, Indiana.
Funeral service will begin at 11:00 am.
Burial is private to family.
