William F. Melcher

William Frederick Melcher, 70, passed away on October 23, 2023, of natural causes. He was born in Indianapolis on June 25, 1953, the second of three children adopted at birth by Fred and Margaret Melcher. He graduated from North Central High School and attended Ivy Tech Community College.

Following stints at Taylor’s Bakery and LS Ayres, he began a long career as an over-the-road truck driver. After he retired, he helped launch the original Thai Orchard Restaurant in the city’s Castleton suburb.

In his spare time, Bill enjoyed hiking the State parks. He also maintained a lifelong interest in Old West history and lifestyle, and frequently attended the Indy 500.

Bill is survived by his brother, John Melcher, sister Mary Melcher Babic, nephew Zachary Melcher and niece Margaret Babic.
