William David Colbert, Sr.

June 19, 1961 — May 12, 2025

Indianapolis, IN

William David “Dave C” Colbert Sr. was born on June 19, 1961, in Indianapolis, Indiana, the beloved youngest child of William and Corrine Colbert, who preceded him in death. From a young age, William accepted Christ into his life at Kingsley Terrace Church of Christ and, in his later years, often said, “God knows what’s in my heart.”

William’s journey through life began in the classrooms of IPS #37 and continued through Arsenal Technical High School. A passionate sports enthusiast, William had a deep love for basketball, football, and especially karate. His athletic journey began with the Douglas Little League, where he played baseball and forged early friendships that lasted a lifetime.

William worked for many years at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, a place he took pride in, and even as his health declined, he held onto the hope of returning to work. His dedication and strong work ethic were matched by his warmth and humor.

He was a familiar presence in his neighborhood, often found sitting on the front porch, greeting everyone who passed by with a smile, a “Hello”, or a wave. His neighborly nature earned him the affectionate title of “The Unofficial Mayor of the 3700 Block of Ruckle.”

Above all, William cherished time spent with his family and friends. He especially adored his three grandchildren, who lovingly called him “PawPaw.”

William David “Dave C” Colbert Sr. was called home on May 12, 2025, at the age of 63. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Corrine Colbert, and his brother, Michael Colbert.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his son, William (Kiara) Colbert Jr.; his sisters, Brenda Colbert, Delores Amos, Jacqueline (Rev. Walter C.) Reynolds, and Zandra (Naamon) White; a special sister-in-law, Ae Hui Colbert; three beloved grandchildren, Harper, Hayden, and Hudsyn; and a host of other relatives and lifelong friends.

His legacy lives on in the memories shared by family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered with love.
