On May 1st, 2026, William R. Baker of Indianapolis passed away at the age of 65 due to heart failure.
Bill was born May 5, 1960, in South Bend, Indiana, to Fred and Lucille Baker (Muszynski). He attended Mishawaka Marian High School where he earned a football scholarship to Butler University where he received a Bachelors degree.
Over his life he worked in insurance for various companies and was working for Eskenazi Hospital as a billing analyst. Bill was especially appreciative of the wonderful support from his fiends at Eskenazi during his heath struggles. Bill studied political science and history.
He loved the history of politics, America, and the Catholic Church. He also loved true crime books, music, sports and especially the back to back run Butler had in the NCAA play off. Bill enjoyed gathering with friends to watch the play offs at Pat Flynn's ( Murphy's @ Flynn's) or arguing the high school sports history from the northern Indiana perspective. He also enjoyed the fishing trips to Michigan with his cousins. He was also a regular member of Saint Simon the Apostle Church.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents Fred Baker and Lucille Baker and sister Bonnie Vollmer. He is survived by his brother and best friend Robert Baker, brother-In-law Joseph Vollmer, nephew Patrick Vollmer, niece Allison Vollmer and many other cousins.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Megan Wood and all the people at IU Health North, and Community North Heart Hospital for the loving care he received through the years.
A Catholic funeral will take place on May 9th, 2026, at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery Chapel at 9001 Haverstick Rd, Indianapolis 46240.
