Wendi Rene Houk-Roddy left this earth far too soon, at just 58 years old, on October 9, 2025. She was born on May 3, 1967, in Martinsville, Indiana, to Donna Sue Miller and George Anthony Houk.

Wendi was the oldest of four, a big sister to Tonya, Laddie, and Boomer. Her early years were spent in Martinsville, and by age six she had moved to Memphis, Tennessee. A year later, her family settled in Arlington, Texas, where she lived from ages seven to twelve; and where she discovered her lifelong love for basketball. She moved back home for her teenage years and attended Owen Valley High School, where she continued to play ball and graduated in the Class of 1985. A short time later she met her first love, and welcomed her first child. In time, she met her second and forever love, and together they grew a beautiful family, making her the proud and loving mother of six children.

Wendi was known for her big brown eyes, long blonde hair, and model-like beauty. But it was her infectious laugh and her warm, radiant smile that truly defined her. Her life was full of layers and adventure, but nothing ever meant more to her than her family. She spent many years as a stay-at-home mom, pouring her heart into creating a loving, lively home. She organized neighborhood clean-ups, led Christmas caroling each year, and hosted big family dinners that brought everyone together. She loved music, art, movies, good food, gardening and all things luxurious.

Most of all, she found joy in sharing all those things with the people she loved.

Wendi had lifelong friends and still somehow managed to make new ones everywhere she went. She never met a stranger. She had charm, wit, grace, spunk, and a sharp intelligence that couldn’t be ignored. She was a force, truly one of a kind.

In later years, she became a proud “Grand” to sixteen grandchildren who quickly became her whole world. From being there when they were born, to hosting holiday dinners, cheering them on at games, celebrating their milestones, and even watching some head off to college- she was always their biggest fan. Whether you knew her well or only in passing, you knew how proud she was of “her crew.”

One of her favorite quotes was, “Be true to thyself,” and that’s exactly how she lived: boldly, authentically, and unapologetically. It’s a lesson she leaves with all of us, and one that will be cherished forever.

Wendi is survived by her parents, Donna and Lee Murphy, and Tony and Karen Houk; her siblings, Tonya, Laddie, and Boomer; her children, Eric Lee, Rachel Lynn, Jordan Berkley, Alison Grae, Logan LaRue, Riley Rene; and fifteen beloved grandchildren.

She is now reunited in heaven with her grandson, baby Eli.

Please join us in celebrating Wendi’s beautiful life on October 19th, from 3–9 p.m. at Broadmoor Country Club.

She was deeply loved and will forever be immensely missed.
