Wanda F. Phelan-Tschabold

August 30, 1936 — February 10, 2023

Indianapolis

Wanda F. Phelan-Tschabold, 86, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away peacefully Friday morning February 10, 2023, at her home.

She was born at home on August 30, 1936, to the late Leo and Ruby (May) Coleman in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Being an only child, and only grandchild until the age of 10 years old, she enjoyed the full benefits of a large family of aunts, uncles and beloved grandparents. She experienced immense generosity, love and care in her childhood home and enjoyed sharing these memories with her children.

She was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was courageous, kind, thoughtful & compassionate and took time to help others in need. She was a strong woman when necessary, always classy and tender, she was a survivor. These were the traits she passed on to her children. Her children were her greatest gift. She loved them very much and was proud of all their many accomplishments.

Wanda enjoyed bowling, racquetball, horseshoes, snow skiing, jade plants, reading, poetry, entertaining, hosting parties, sending birthday & anniversary cards and spending time with family and friends. She was an honorary member of the Meanest Moms Society, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and Pioneers of America AT&T. She worked as a licensed real estate agent and retired from Indiana Bell.

Wanda was a lifelong lover of animals, and dearly loved her many boxers, schnauzers, Miss Lilly Poo and Sophie who preceded her in death. She is missed by loyal Miss Sadie who stayed by her side until the end.

Because she lived, there is more love in the world than there would have been without her. And for her, that was the reason above all others for the gift of life. She was a dynamic force that will be missed.

She is preceded in death by her parents Leo & Ruby Coleman, her beloved son Patrick Kevin Phelan, and her first husband and father of their six beautiful children, Hugh (Bud) F. Phelan.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband Edward E. Tschabold, son, Joseph (Julie) Phelan, daughters, Teresa Short (Charlie), Susan (Brian) McSwain, Angela Hornaday, Elizabeth (Tammy) Ennis, and stepchildren, Jennifer Philips & Randy Tschabold, 13 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. She was dear to many and will live in the heart of those she loved.
