Virginia Louise Schaub, affectionately known as “Ginny,” passed away on June 21, 2026, at the age of 71, with her loving family by her side.
Born on November 28, 1954, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Ginny was a devoted mother, grandmother, family member, and friend. She could brighten any room with her quick wit, infectious laughter, and unmistakable sarcasm. Those who knew her best knew that if she teased you, it meant she loved you.
Ginny was known for her selfless heart, endless enthusiasm, and unwavering kindness. She dedicated much of her life to helping others, volunteering wherever she was needed and never hesitating to lend a hand. She was especially passionate about breast cancer awareness and proudly volunteered with Race for the Cure and related events for 26 years. Her commitment to serving her community touched countless lives and reflected the generosity that defined her character.
A devoted Chicago Cubs fan, Ginny remained loyal through every triumph and heartbreak. Seeing the Cubs win the World Series in her lifetime was a true blessing. She was a dedicated armchair cheerleader for the Colts and Pacers as well.
Ginny was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Dorothea Schaub; her brother Robert Schaub; her sisters, Jacqueline (Schaub) Reeves and Therese (Schaub) Suesz. She is survived by her loving daughter, Amy Okerson; her cherished grandchildren, Haden Taylor and Hannah Taylor, who lovingly called her “Mamaw”; her sister and lifelong best friend and brother-in-law, Mary (Schaub) and Mike Marinaccio; along with many extended family members, friends, and loved ones who will forever treasure the memories they shared with her.
Ginny’s legacy is one of laughter, compassion, and service. She never met a stranger, never passed up an opportunity to help someone in need, and never missed a chance to make a joke - whether anyone was ready for it or not. If she were writing this herself, she would probably insist on reminding everyone that she was forever 29 and that the Cubs were definitely winning it all again next season. She would also take this one last opportunity to remind anyone that would listen, just how very proud she was of her daughter and grandkids because no one cheered louder or prayed harder for them than she did.
Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in the countless smiles, stories, and acts of kindness she leaves behind. Her love, humor, and generous spirit will continue to live on in all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished. Cremation and services have been entrusted to and a celebration of her life will be held at Indiana Funeral Care East, 1307 N. Shadeland Ave. 46219 on July 8, 2026 from 5-8pm with a rosary at 7:30.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Pink Ribbon Connection or American Diabetes Association in her honor.
