Vernon Lee Cookson, 74, passed away on December 2, 2023, in Indianapolis, IN. Vern was born in Columbus, Indiana, and graduated from Columbus High School, home of the Bulldogs, where he was an All-State & Varsity football player. He furthered his education at Indiana State University where he played football and earned a degree in Community Health.

Vern served in the US Army, after which he began his professional career at Winona Hospital in Indianapolis, working in the Environmental Services Department. Throughout his career, Vern had leadership roles in the Environmental Services Departments of IU Health and Community Hospitals.

Vern is survived by his wife, Jane (Sutton) Cookson, son Jason Cookson (m. Craig Walters), and daughter Ashley Cookson. He was also blessed with three grandchildren, Lily, Kennedy and Vivian. Vern was preceded in death by his father, Donald Lee Cookson, and mother, Ernestine (Jones) Cookson.

Vern was an active member of Epworth United Methodist Church, where he found solace and community as both a parishioner and serving on the Board of Trustees.

Vern will be remembered for his commitment to serving others. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, compassion, and devotion to his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
