Vera M. Martin

Vera Martin (Hayes) passed away peacefully on June 9, 2023, in Indianapolis at the age of 92. Vera was born on January 29, 1931, in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was a mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Vera was a Housekeeping Supervisor at the Central State Hospital for over 30 years.

Vera had a passion for cooking, decorating her home, and shopping. She loved to entertain her family and friends and was known for her delicious meals. She was always impeccably dressed and enjoyed going to social events with her friends.

Vera is survived by her children, LaFawn Kirland and Leanda Walls-Kirkland, granddaughters Atiya Parson, Ebonie Walls-Peterson, Quiana Hennigan, Adrienne Kirkland-Martin, and grandson Brandon LaFawn Kirkland. Her sister Joann Steppe, Aunt Betty Taylor, niece Valerie Helm-Fuqua, nephews Lamar Steppe and Edward Steppe along with a host of great-nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Henry Martin, son Lezley Eugene Kirkland, granddaughter LeAnn Elizabeth Walls, and great granddaughter Yazmin E. Walls.

A graveside service will be held with close family at Sutherland Park Cemetery on June 30, 2023, at 11:00 am. Vera will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
