Velma Dobbs

Velma Dobbs, 101, passed away on December 3, 2023. She was born on September 12, 1922.

Velma was born to her parents James and Aggie Starling in Weir, Mississippi and attended Weir high school.  She was married to Harvey Dobbs in 1966, and throughout her life she had ten children she loved dearly.

One of the ways she enjoyed spending her time was sewing. She was a very talented seamstress and did upholstery work. Velma also enjoyed gardening. She loved flowers, roses in particular.

She is survived by her children Shirley T. Miller, Bobbie Neil Miller, Catherine Hemmitt; numerous grandchildren who love and miss her.

She is preceded in death by her late husband Harvey Dobbs; her children Sally Boyd, Dorothy Sanding, Lou Agnes Miller, Nelson Miller Jr., John B. Miller, Theodosia Martin, Willie Earl Miller; and her parents.

Funeral services will be held at Indiana Funeral Care – Harry W. Moore Chapel, 8151 Allisonville Rd, Indianapolis IN 46250, on Thursday December 14, 2023 with visitation from 10:30am-11:30am and service beginning at 11:30am. She will be laid to rest in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
