Velma Lee Couch, 78, passed away on August 2, 2025, in Mooresville, Indiana. Born on May 12, 1947, in Austin, Indiana, Velma was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose warmth and care left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Worley Couch; her daughter, Sheila Hughes (and husband John); and her two sons, Sammy Couch (Amy) and Steven Couch (Helen). Velma was a proud grandmother to seven grandchildren: Todd, Cassie, Johnathan, Samantha, Matthew, and William, Paige. She was also blessed with four great-grandchildren: Zariah, Kendadee, Mason and Knox. Velma is also survived by two brothers, Lonnie and Neil, and two sisters, Rita and Michelle.
Known affectionately as “My Little Woman” or “Mama,” Velma was deeply loved by her family and will be missed beyond measure. She was the rock of the family—always putting others first and serving as a caregiver to everyone around her. Velma found joy in life’s simple pleasures: trips to the Smoky Mountains, baking during Christmastime, gardening, admiring her flowers, and watching the birds out her window.
Above all, Velma loved her family dearly. Her legacy of love, kindness, and strength will live on in all who were fortunate to know her.
