Timothy Alden Heckel, a devoted husband, father, and friend, passed away on November 24, 2025, at Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. Born on September 13, 1960, in Greencastle, Indiana, Timothy was the second oldest of four children in the Heckel family. He was the beloved son of Thomas A. Heckel and the late Frances L. Yeager.
Timothy’s early years were spent in Fillmore, where he developed a passion for creativity and a love for the great outdoors. He graduated from North Putnam High School, where he played football for all four years. Though he attended Ball State University, he chose to pursue a career in law enforcement instead of completing his degree. This path led him to a fulfilling 38-year career with the IPD/IMPD, where he began as a patrolman and went on to serve as an undercover officer and detective before retiring in 2020.
A man known for his artistic spirit, Timothy was more than just a skilled professional; he was a loving father who dedicated time to nurture and support his children. He coached their little league teams and never missed a sporting event or performance, always cheering them on from the sidelines. His creative talents shone through in many ways, from making his children's Halloween costumes to crafting thoughtful messages in birthday cards. His ability to express himself through writing and art added depth to his relationships, leaving treasured memories in the hearts of those he loved.
Timothy's passions extended beyond his family. He was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in hunting, fishing, and golfing, often spotted on the golf course by 1:00 p.m. on a workday, embracing life to the fullest. His adventurous spirit and zest for life resonated deeply with friends and family alike.
He is survived by his loving wife of four years, Renee Heckel, of Indianapolis, Indiana, and his two sons, Alden Heckel (Kelsey) of Wilmore, Kentucky, and Jeremiah Heckel (Brooke) of Indianapolis, Indiana, step-children, Patrick Eby of Aurora, Illinois, Nicholas Eby of Indianapolis, Indiana and Andrew Eby of Carbondale, Illinois. Timothy also leaves behind his father, Thomas Heckel (Ronda) of Filmore, Indiana, and his siblings: Tom Heckel (Patty) of Powell, Ohio, Todd Heckel (Vicki) of Reisterstown, Maryland, and Teresa Bratcher (Chris) of Seymour, Indiana. His legacy will continue to live on through his cherished grandchildren, Eloise, Conley, Rosemary, Callum, Oaklee, Rowen, Leon and Audis who brought him immense joy and pride.
A visitation will be held at Indiana Funeral Care, Greenwood Chapel, located at 2433 East Main Street, Greenwood, Indiana, on December 6, 2025, from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM, followed by a memorial service from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM.
Timothy Alden Heckel will be remembered for his incredible generosity of spirit, unwavering dedication to his family, and passion for life. He touched many lives throughout his journey, and his memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
