Indianapolis

Thomas L. Weaver passed unexpectedly on Monday August 7, 2023

Tom was born in Indianapolis on March 29, 1946, to his loving parents John and Mary Weaver.

Tom started working at Weavers Lawn and Garden before it was officially called that back in the early 50’s with his sister Pam selling Christmas Swags out of his wagon at 38th and Keystone Avenue. They gather the greenery from their farm in Wilbur In. where they spent many wonderful times there with their parents and family friends. When he wasn’t hustling greenery, he was active in sports including football, baseball and boys’ scouts. Tom went to grade school at IPS school Joyce Kilmer #69 and proudly graduated from Arsenal Tech High School in 1964.

Tom enlisted in the US Air Force in 1966 and served in the Vietnam War. When he turned, he eventually returned to work at Weavers Lawn and Garden until his retirement in 2018. Tom took pride in his ownership of Weaver’s to make sure that his customers had the best looking and most unusual plants around. Which meant visiting many local greenhouses in town here. Even to this date Tom would revisit these greenhouses to reminisce about good times and see what is new. Which meant bringing something home for Lynda to water.

In the early 70s Tom coached youth baseball and football at Meadows and White River Little League.

Tom truly loved coaching The Indianapolis Bears Amateur Football to their championship in 1979 and 1980. This is also where he made lifetime friends.

Tom’s coaching career continued to American Softball Association senior softball where his teams went to compete several ASA world series. Tom was inducted in the ASA Indiana Softball Indianapolis Hall of Fame 2013.

One of Tom’s favorite past times was enjoying a round of golf at one of the many golf courses Indianapolis had to offer. His main course was Sarah Shank Golf Course on the south side of Indianapolis where he played several rounds with his favorite group, The DH’s. When he wasn’t playing golf Tom enjoyed sitting on his front and back porch watching the fish in his pond and soaking in his perfectly landscaped backyard. He also enjoyed taking quick trips to one of Indiana’s various local casinos where he nearly perfected the art of picking winning horses.

Tom’s proudest achievements were and always will be his family. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Weaver and brother Rod Weaver. He is survived by his wife Lynda (Myers) Weaver, children Tracy (Rob) Russell, Jonathan (Stacy) Weaver, Nick (Madi Howard) Weaver, and his sister Pam (Fred) Cossell and brother Dale (Teresa) Weaver. Sister and brother in laws – Jayne & Jim McGuinness, Kelly and Mike Peters, Jay and Penny Myers. As well as 4 grand children and 4 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.

In lieu of flowers the family ask for donations to be made in his honor to his alma mater ATHS Alumni Association, PO Box 11433 Indianapolis, In 46201 – “In Memory of Thomas Weaver Class of 1964”
