Teresa Lynn Blake

April 3, 1947 — January 29, 2025

Indianapolis

Teresa Lynn Blake, affectionately known as Terri to all who knew her, would have celebrated her 78th birthday on April 3rd. Though she has passed, her vibrant spirit will live on in the hearts of everyone whose lives she touched.

Born in New Albany, Indiana, Terri was passionate about life and, above all, birthdays—especially those of her loved ones. She reveled in the joy of celebrating with those closest to her, often planning celebrations months in advance or introducing new and unique gift ideas that felt as though they came from a place of magic. She believed in making others feel special and valued, and she did so effortlessly.

A social worker and therapist by profession, Terri was a remarkable listener—empathetic, careful, and precise with her words. But beyond her professional prowess, she was deeply playful, creative, and often delightfully silly. Her infectious enthusiasm for life and her unique way with language—creating phrases and playful hybrid words—left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Those who were part of her orbit continue to see the world through her loving, joyful lens.

Terri had a deep love and passion for nature, ornithology, and botany. She found great joy in the beauty of the natural world, and she shared that love with everyone around her. Her green thumb, patience, and care led to flourishing plants that brought her immense joy and were shared with others through photographs. She adored animals, especially cats and dogs, and they were often her constant companions. Terri was also passionate about fine dining, the arts, and creating a home oasis that reflected her unique sense of beauty and comfort.

Above all, Terri cared deeply for her family and friends. She is survived by her son Eric Van Abeele, daughter Kara Van Abeele, and partner Linda Tate, along with her brother Chris Blake and her sister-in-law, Suzy Blake and her nephews Bradley and Aaron Potts and her niece Ashley Kraft. Terri enjoyed regular meals, book discussions, and quality time with those she loved, always finding ways to strengthen connections and create lasting memories. She gave selflessly to those in need, always offering her help and guidance to those who sought it.

Though we now face the pain of her absence, Terri’s legacy will endure. There is a hole in our hearts that cannot be fully mended, but we can tend to it by caring for one another and keeping her memory alive in the ways she so gracefully showed us.

Terri will be missed terribly by all who loved her, but her influence and love will live on in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
