Listen to Obituary

Sylvia Roy Virgona, 81, of Westfield, Indiana, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2026, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Sylvia was born on November 17, 1944, in Frenchville, Maine, where she was raised on a family farm and learned the values of hard work, resilience, and caring for others. At just 18 years old, she set out on her own, moving to Queens, New York, to pursue a career as a flight attendant with Pan Am. Her love for travel and people remained with her throughout her life.

After her time as a flight attendant, Sylvia continued her career in the travel industry as a travel agent and eventually fulfilled her dream of opening her own travel agency. She took great pride in helping others explore the world and create lasting memories, approaching her work with the same care and dedication she brought to every part of her life.

Above all, Sylvia was the heart of her family. She loved being with people and was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. She was selfless in every way, always putting others first, and was known for her warmth, generosity, and joyful spirit. A gifted cook and the true pillar and connector of the family, she brought everyone together through her meals, her laughter, and her unwavering love.

Sylvia is survived by her beloved husband, James Virgona; her son, Brian Virgona; daughters-in-law, Jennifer Virgona and Lisa Virgona; and her cherished grandchildren, Chloe, Luke, and Everett, who were the light of her life. She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Virgona.

She will always remain a part of her family, and her legacy of love, kindness, and devotion will live on through all who were blessed to know her.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 20, beginning at 10:00 AM, followed by Mass at 11:00 AM, at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church. A luncheon will follow the service.

The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, kindness, and support during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made in Sylvia’s memory to support pancreatic cancer research.
