Susan B. Newell

April 7, 1937 — May 25, 2023

Indianapolis

After a long and valiant fight with cancer, Susan B. Newell passed away May 25, 2023. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Donald H. Newell, and is survived by her sister, Mary Barbara Browne of Denver, CO; her daughters, Sandy LaClave and Valerie Dommert, both of Houston, TX; her son, Ken Newell, of Carmel, IN; her sons-in-law, Grant LaClave and Andy Dommert of Houston; as well as her grandchildren, Abby Dommert of Brooklyn, NY; Adam Dommert of Denton, TX; and Noah and Reggie Dommert of Houston.

Susan was born to Col. Harrison & Valerie Browne in 1937 in Boston, MA. She spent her childhood in St. Paul, MN where she awaited the return of her father from a World War II Japanese POW camp. The family subsequently moved to San Antonio, TX where, after finishing college in Boulder, CO, Susan met and married the love of her life.

As a US Army wife, Susan travelled the world. After Don retired from the service, the family lived in San Antonio once again, and later moved to Carmel, IN. Susan loved everything about Carmel and was known throughout her neighborhood for her daily long walks and tending to her garden. Her happy place was outside in her yard, regardless of the time of year. She was dearly loved and will be sorely missed.
