Susan K. Johnson

January 16, 1950 — February 12, 2024

Brownsburg

Susan K. Johnson, 74, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2024, after a year-long battle with cancer. Sue was born in Hammond, but grew up and spent the majority of her life in Highland, Indiana, where she met her husband, raised her family, and enjoyed long and close relationships with her friends. Sue had moved to Brownsburg in recent years to be closer to family.

As a daughter, sister, friend, and mother, she touched countless lives and made a lasting impact on those she met with her love, generosity, and humor. She was just as quick to share a laugh as she was to lend a kind and patient ear. She enjoyed sharing a margarita on her porch with friends and neighbors and loved spending her summers with her sister in Colorado, where she spent countless hours laughing.

Susan filled many roles in her life. She enjoyed her time teaching preschool at Little Lambs Learning Center in Highland, served as an Enrichment Trainer at The Arc of Northwest Indiana, and later provided office management to Metal Door Incorporated. Her most cherished role, though, was that of a wife, mother, and grandmother, and she adored her time spent with and doting on her family. She is survived by her children: Erik Johnson of Ft. Myers, Florida, and Kate (Adam) Collins of Indianapolis, Indiana, grandchildren Cody Eby, Hannah and Denver Johnson and their mother Amanda Eby of Cedar Lake, Indiana, her sister Linda (Marv) Dewey, niece Gaylen (Brian) Matzen, and nephew Aaron (Jen) Gelbhaus, all of Grand County, Colorado.

Those who knew Susan well knew that she simply loved elephants, which were placed throughout her home. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee.
