Preston “Steve” Stephen Ewing obituary

Preston ‘Steve’ Ewing passed away on November 19, 2025 after a short battle with cancer. He was the beloved son of Preston M and Leila Ewing.

Steve was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion and his faith in God. Many will also remember Steve for his sense of humor and his ‘giggle’ when he laughed. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends and many more whose lives were touched by him. We ask that you remember him not for the way his life ended, but for the way it was lived and for the profound impact it had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Steve is survived by his wife Debra Ewing, son Steven Ewing, grandsons Noah and Henry Ewing, mother Leila Ewing, sister Katherine ‘Kathy’ Jackson and brother Martin ‘Marty’ Ewing. He also leaves behind aunts, cousins and many friends who cherished him dearly. He was predeceased by his father Preston M Ewing, sister Rebecca ‘Becky’ Ewing, brother-in-law Ron Jackson and sister-in-law Margie Ewing.

Steve was employed 34 years with GM Truck and Bus in Indianapolis working in skilled trades as a WEMR.

Steve was born in Virginia and came to Indiana after his parents moved here when Steve was age 11. Even though Steve considered Indiana his home he still held many fond memories of growing up in Virginia. Steve met his future wife Debra in Indiana after his family moved to a house on the street behind where Debra’s family lived. It wasn’t love at first sight but eventually love did grow between them and they got married on November 29, 1975 and would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary shortly after Steve’s passing. Steve and Debra were very devoted to one another and loved one another deeply.

Above all else Steve loved his family dearly and he doted on his grandsons Noah and Henry. Steve loved to travel, both domestically and abroad, visiting many extraordinary places around the world. His favorite OUS vacations were Ireland, where he drove a nine passenger van around the island on the left side of the road, and Israel, where he was baptized in the Jordan River. Steve learned to snow ski in his 40s and fell in love with the sport. He and his wife would take several snow skiing trips each year with friends where they had the best vacations and adventures of their life. Steve also loved to motorcycle and his biggest and most memorable motorcycle trip was with his good friend Chuck when they rode to Alaska and back over a period of 30 days. Steve always said they needed more time for the trip because it was such along ride there and back. Steve also loved his red corvette he bought in 2016. He called it his baby and he kept it immaculate. He and his wife began wintering in Florida in 2014 when Steve began to dislike the cold and where they made more lasting friendships.

There will be a viewing for Steve at Indiana Funeral Care on Monday November 24, 2025 from 9:30am to 11:30am at 2433 E Main St, Greenwood, IN 46143. Immediately after the viewing Steve will be transported to Washington Park Cemetery at 10612 E Washington St, Indpls, IN 46229 for graveside services and interment starting at noon.

There will also be a Memorial Service for Steve at a later date with more information to come.

Although Steve’s physical presence may no longer grace our lives, his spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. May his memory be a blessing to all. Steve was a believer and we know that Steve came into the presence of the Lord at the time of his death and those who also believe should be comforted knowing that they will see Steve again.
