Stephen Ray Prater, born September 25, 1948, passed away at home on June 12, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He is now free from the body that had been held prisoner by Parkinson's disease and dementia for 26 years. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for his unwavering support, devotion, and love for his family.
Steve leaves behind his beloved wife, Donna, of 58 years. His greatest source of pride was his family, including his daughters, Nancy Clifford and Rebecca (Steve) Beals; his son, Stephen J. Prater; and his three grandchildren, whom he absolutely adored: Ashley Conrad, Ryan Conrad, and Lauren Cochran.
He is also survived by his sister, Sherry Cain; foster siblings, Kevin Winn and Sara Tucker; and many cherished aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Alene Prater; and his sisters, Peggy Reed, Brenda Neeb, and Sondra McCulloch.
Steve enjoyed playing golf and basketball. He coached girls' soccer for many years and had a passion for photography, fishing, camping, and watching sporting events with his son. He attended Westlake Community Church of God, where, after a service several years ago, he was overcome with emotion and said, "I got it. I finally got it."
Steve worked in the printing industry for 59 years, including his time with Cornelius Printing Company and Roche Diagnostics.
