Stephen Edward Hester

Stephen Edward Hester 70, was born April 14, 1952, to Sam James and Anna Belle Burrell in Indianapolis, Indiana. Stephen passed away on January 2, 2023, in Louisville, KY with his daughter and wife by his side.

Stephen went to Crispus Attucks high school, where he graduated at the top of his class. After graduating, he went to college at the University of Louisville, Ivy Tech, IUPUI and Walden University, where he obtained his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree.

Stephen worked for the Indianapolis Public Works for ten years. He was also a certified drug and alcohol counselor at the Volunteers of America for twelve years. He worked at the Louisville Correction Facility. Later, Stephen was an entrepreneur, and with a group of his close friends, opened and ran their own business as advocates against drug abuse.

Stephen was an avid musician and loved Jazz. He played the base guitar and could sing like a professional singer. He loved his cars. He took great care of his vehicles and washed them all the time. He enjoyed gardening and loved spending time with his children and talking to his grandchildren.

Stephen leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife, Blanche Hester; seven children, Tylette Lloyd of Boston, Tracy Bluitt, Kia Hines, Melody Hines, Megan Hines, Rashaad Hines, and Imani Nunley, all of Indianapolis; twenty-two grandchildren; one great grandchild; one sister, Betty; four brothers, Gregory, John Mark, Charles, and Eric; aunts, cousins, nieces, nephew and a host of family and friends.

He was preceded in death by His parents, Sam James and Anna Belle Burrell; grandparents, Edward Wiggins and Mary Hart; sister, Stephanie James; granddaughter, Nehaeh Tunstill and the mother of four of his children, Pandora Hines.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
