Stella E. Smith

Stella E. "Granny" Smith (White Eyes), 74, of Franklin, IN, passed away on December 31, 2023. Stella was born on March 21, 1949, in Pine Ridge, SD, and cherished her Native American heritage as a proud member of the Oglala Sioux Indian tribe.

Stella was a loving and devoted woman who adored spending time with her family, especially during the holidays. She had a passion for cooking and was known for her culinary skills. Stella had a great sense of humor, always bringing laughter to those around her, and she was known for her honesty and unwavering support for others. She was a Christian and held her faith close to her heart.

In her younger years, Stella worked as a QMA at University Heights and later spent several years at Maple Hurst bakery. She was dedicated to her career and took pride in her work.

In her leisure time, Stella enjoyed sipping her morning coffee while admiring the sunrise views. She had a fondness for westerns and daytime shows, finding joy in watching them.

However, her greatest enjoyment came from spoiling her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.

Stella is survived by her children: James A. Bivens Jr (Maria) of Edinburgh, William A. Bivens (Kelly) of Ingalls, Eric A. & Sherry L. Bivens of Franklin, and Christina R. & Jason L. Turner of Franklin.

She was a proud grandmother to Erica, James, Bridgett, Allison, Dakota, Bailey, Katelyn, Tyler, Shelby, Jaylee, and Sydney. Stella leaves behind eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Sandy, Rose, & Jill and brothers Roger Dean and Russell.

Stella was preceded in death by her former husband, James Bivens, as well as her brother Floyd and sister Sybil.

Visitation is Tuesday, January 16^th, 2023, from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Indiana Funeral Care, Greenwood Chapel.

Memorial service will begin at 3:00 pm.
