Sharon Lee (Oberlie) Neal passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 3, 2026. Born on July 11, 1942, in Lafayette, Indiana, Sharon was the cherished daughter of Charles and Virginia Oberlie. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister-in-law, Marcia Marker; her brother-in-law, Thomas Marker; her sister-in-law, Frances Oberlie; and her brother-in-law,

On September 23, 1961, Sharon married the love of her life, Jay Neal. Their marriage spanned decades filled with love, laughter, and unwavering companionship, and together they built a family grounded in warmth and joy.

Sharon was a devoted mother to Craig (Jamie) Neal, Kevin Neal, and Randall (Jamie) Neal, and a beloved sister to Charles (Rita) Oberlie and her twin sister, Carolyn Army. She took immense pride in her grandchildren, Steven, Madison, Piper (and her mother Heather), and Peyton, and her adored great-granddaughter, Aurora. She also shared a special bond with many nieces and nephews, touching their lives with her kindness and guidance.

A 1960 graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School, Sharon carried her compassion and dedication into every part of her life. Her career began at Economation, later Pentek, and Real Mechanical, where she supported the business with skill and care and formed friendships along the way.

Known affectionately as "Mama Neal," Sharon was a second mother to many. She loved volunteering, particularly with the Special Olympics of Indiana, and found joy in supporting her community. Music and singing were lifelong passions, and she always enthusiastically supported her sons in their activities, especially marching band.

Sharon loved sports, especially cheering for her Purdue Boilermakers, and she treasured time spent with friends, including her high school luncheon group. Her home was the heart of family gatherings, holiday celebrations, and countless joyful moments. She was an exceptional cook, celebrated for her banana bread, chocolate chip cookies, and apple pies, and she took great pride in her flowers and gardens.

Sharon had a sharp wit and a contagious laugh, a social spirit, and a generous heart. She was always ready to support those in need, leaving a lasting impact on everyone who knew her. Her life was a testament to love, generosity, and joy. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all whose lives she touched.

The family expresses deep gratitude to the staff at St. Francis Hospital and Greenwood Meadows Rehabilitation for their compassionate care during Sharon’s final days.

A private graveside service will be held on April 20, 2026 at Weston Cemetery, 509 W. Lincoln Street, Rensselaer, IN 47978 at 1:00pm Central Daylight Time, 2:00pm Eastern Daylight Time.
