Russell Wayne Ross

Russell Wayne Ross, 97, of Franklin, Indiana, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of faith, family, and service. Born on December 13, 1928, in Boone County, Indiana, Russell, affectionately known as "Sonny," embarked on a journey of profound impact and unwavering devotion.

Russell was the oldest son of the late Walter and Ellen Catherine (Dickerson) Ross of Boone County, Indiana. Growing up on a farm, he learned the values of hard work and perseverance, which he carried throughout his life. After graduating from Pinnell High School, he pursued his calling at Lincoln Bible Institute. For 51 years, Pastor Ross was a pillar of his community, ministering at 11 different churches and offering spiritual guidance that touched countless lives. His ministry was marked by significant milestones, including baptisms and uniting couples in marriage.

In 1950, he married the love of his life, Joan C. (Smallfelt), of Medaryville, Indiana and together they built a beautiful family. He was a loving father to six children: Dan (Rita) Ross, Deb Ross, Diana (Tom) Johnson, David (Holly) Ross, Darrell (Tiffany) Ross, and Betsy Ross. He was also a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. He is survived by his brother, Dean, and his sister, Marjorie Hendricks. He was preceded in death by his brothers Gene, Robert, John, and Lowell Lee.

Beyond his ministry, Russell was an avid gardener, finding joy and peace tending his vegetable gardens and flowers. He also prioritized a healthy lifestyle, with a lifelong commitment to exercise. He will be remembered for his steadfast Christian faith, his dedication to his family, and his gentle spirit.

Visitation is Friday, March 27, 2026, 9:30 am until 11:00 am at Wright Memorial Chapel, Otterbein Senior Living, 1070 W. Jefferson Street. Franklin, Indiana 46131, Door E5.

Funeral service will begin at 11:00 am.

Burial will be Saturday, March 28, 2026 at 11:00 am at Oak Hill Cemetery, 935 E. Washington Street, Lebanon, IN 46052.
