Reuben Earl Hughes, age 63, was born on April 26, 1963, at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He peacefully departed this life on June 10, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of service, faith, kindness, and love for family and community.

As the son of a military family, Reuben's childhood was filled with travel and adventure. As an Army brat, he lived in Fort Bragg and Panama before spending most of his childhood in South Bend, Indiana. He later moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, where he completed his high school education, graduating from Arlington High School in 1982.

Throughout his life, Reuben discovered his passion for truck driving and operating his own lawn care business. He took great pride in his work and became well known throughout his community for his dedication and reliability. Reuben was especially loved on Forest Manor Avenue, where he faithfully looked after many of the neighborhood elders, ensuring their lawns were maintained and assisted whenever needed.

Family was at the heart of Reuben’s life. He was deeply devoted to his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, serving as a mentor and positive influence to many young people. He attended their sporting events, encouraged their goals, and offered personal guidance. Whether providing a ride to church, sharing a meaningful conversation, or simply showing up when needed, Reuben touched countless lives and left a lasting impact.

In 2021, Reuben rededicated his life to the Lord and remained steadfast in his faith. He proudly served God and became known as a peacemaker, a faithful friend, and a man who continually sought ways to bless others. His generosity, compassion, and willingness to help anyone in need earned him the respect and admiration of many.

During the final years of his life, Reuben helped in caring for his elderly father. He also found happiness in becoming engaged and looked forward to the future with hope and gratitude unto the Lord.

Reuben was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Mardree J.L. Hughes; his sister, Deborah Hughes; two nephews, James Hughes and Timmy Hughes; and two great-nephews, Jalein Shurtz and Shawn White.

Reuben leaves to cherish his memory his beloved son, Cedrick E. Hughes; daughter in Law Larissa Hughes; his granddaughters, Anae and Anyiah; his loving fiancée, Tracy Randolph; his father, Dock L. Hughes Sr.; his siblings, Alyce M. Rye, Dock L Hughes Jr., and Carmencita D. Hughes; twelve nieces and nephews; a host of great-nieces and great-nephews; one great-great-nephew; and a multitude of cherished friends whose lives were enriched by his kindness, generosity, and unwavering support.
