Ronnie Deaton passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on August 1, 2025. He was 77 years old. He is survived by his loving wife, Lisa Deaton, his children Lance (Julia) Deaton, Heather (Michael) Sigler, Shannon (Brett) Sims, Connor Deaton, six grandchildren, brother Larry (Vikki) Deaton, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Ronnie was born in Harveyton, Kentucky July 14, 1948, the fourth of eight children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Sr. and Polly Deaton (Wooten), sisters Patricia Price, Sylvia Deaton, Lavonia Huxley , Deborah McMasters, Amanda Deaton and brother, Samuel Deaton, Jr.
He attended Broad Ripple High School and was a proud Vietnam Veteran, serving in the United States Navy from 1966 – 1969, aboard the USS Ranger (CV-61) as a Boatswain’s Mate.
He was a skilled tradesman, passionate about his work with concrete. He was employed by Carmel Concrete and later, American Concrete, until his retirement in 2005.
When not working, he spent time with friends at White River Yacht Club and was a Free Mason.
A big sports fan, Ronnie rarely missed watching a Colts, Pacers, Hoosiers or Notre Dame game.
A passionate and lifelong golfer, he could usually be found either at the golf course, talking about golf or watching golf on tv. His skill on the links as well as his untouchable swagger and penchant for mulligans made him a great companion on the course.. His love of the game eventually brought him to Winding Ridge Golf Club, where he was a fixture for over 20 years, often dispensing unwanted swing advice to the Wednesday Men’s Club. Ronnie was an Indianapolis’ Northside legend, who never met a stranger and always greeted friends with a ready smile and an eyeroll inducing story.
To his family, he was a source of strength and perseverance, whose greatest example was his tremendous work ethic. As the world’s most impatient driver, it is unlikely that any of his kids will be able to sit at a stop light without hearing him say “burn ‘em” when the light changes to green. Naturally sarcastic, he often said “all we have is time” when his patience wore thin and this will never cease to be a source of laughter at future family events. His golf buddies will forever fondly say “that never happened” whenever they toss their mulligan ball onto the fairway.
His legacy as a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend will forever live on in the memories he gave us through his sense of humor and love of life.
In Celebration of Ronnie’s life and legacy, everyone is invited to RSVP for a golf outing at Winding Ridge October 4, 2025 at 10:00 am followed immediately by a Celebration of Life at the clubhouse, beginning at 2 PM.
