Ronald Asher Ausherman, 79 of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2026 leaving a legacy of faithful service, devotion to family, and love for music. Born on May 18, 1946 as the youngest in a family of five loving siblings, he had no shortage of attention, fun, and laughter surrounding him. Ron attended Broad Ripple High School and was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, serving honorably during the Vietnam era.
Ron loved his family deeply. He treasured any time spent making memories with his children and grandchildren. His best role in life was undoubtedly grandfather. He loved animals of any kind, but he had a real soft spot for his dog Dillon who was his constant companion. He enjoyed the outdoors especially fishing and boating. He loved the beach, and he had a particular fondness for the coast of Georgia, Florida and South Carolina. A talented musician and song writer, Ron spent the majority of his adult life writing music and playing guitar in a variety of venues including a celebration event for the Indianapolis 500. During his time living in Statesboro, GA he wrote a song that played regularly on the radio called “The Eagles are in Flight” which was a tribute to Coach Erk Russell and Georgia Southern University’s football team. Ron enjoyed a career traveling the country as a Quality Assurance Engineer in the nuclear power industry before returning to his beloved hometown of Indianapolis working at Patriot Engineering before his retirement.
Ron is survived by his faithful partner of over 30 years, Susan VonGunten of Indianapolis, his beloved sisters Jenny Ausherman of Carmel, Indiana, and Janice Ausherman of Martinsville, Indiana, daughter Nichole Ausherman Lawson (Harley) of Hawkinsville, Georgia, son Aaron Ausherman of Dallas, Texas and the four amazing loves of his life, his grandchildren Sydney, Asher, and Garrison Lawson and Jada Ausherman, along with many incredible nieces and nephews that he adored. He was preceded in death by his parents Mr. Robert Ausherman and Mrs. Mary Ausherman of Indianapolis, his brothers Bob Auscherman, Bill Ausherman, and his sister Joyce Allen. He will be deeply missed. His family finds comfort in knowing that as a man of faith, he now rests in the peace of the Lord.
Information regarding services are to be announced at a later time.
In honor of Ron’s love for animals and in lieu of flowers, please make donations in Ron’s memory to the Humane Society for Hamilton County. You may donate on their website https://www.hamiltonhumane.com/adopt.
