Roger Lee Nesbitt of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2026. He had been battling Small Cell Carcinoma and Pulmonary Fibrosis for over five months and developed sepsis during hospital stay due to pulmonary fibrosis and fluid build-up in his lungs. He is proceeded in death by his father; Jo Nesbitt, mother; Bette Nesbitt, and aunt; Elizabeth “Buff” Eubanks. He is survived by his wife Cindy (Crow) Nesbitt, his daughters Rachael Nesbitt, Hannah (Brady) Boles, and Abby Nesbitt, granddaughter Violet Boles, his brother Brian Nesbitt, Aunt Reba (Nesbitt) Heins, sister-in-law Jenny (Crow) Buchanan, brother-in-law; Jerry Buchanan, and their children Jake (Allie) Buchanan, Haley (Kyle) Endres, and Grace Buchanan. He also had great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
He was born on Saturday, October 10, 1953 in Great Falls, Montana. His family moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana. Then moved to Carmel, Indiana during his High School years where he attended Carmel High School. He went to Indiana University and received a BA in Political Science in 1980. He married his wife Cindy Nesbitt on August 4, 1984. They would have celebrated their 42-wedding anniversary this year. Roger had many career paths he was a Realtor for Century 21 and Baldwin Brothers Real Estate. He was also an Assistant Varsity Coach/Junior Varsity Head Coach for the Lawrence North High School Softball team. Roger was also a regular attendee along with his family to Geist Community Church until 2018. He joined Bible studies, small groups, and taught Sunday School with his wife to preschool children. Roger spent his summers volunteering his time with Oaklandon Youth Organization by coaching softball. He became Vice President of 12/14U softball 2000-2008 and Head Travel Softball coach for 14U Red Storm 2008-2015. Roger will be remembered for being a man of faith, dedicated to his family, a role model to athletes who learned the game of softball and bringing those skills to their future careers, going on fishing trips with his three best friends, and supporting causes like Animal Protection League, political leaders he supported, and groups that support Riley Hospital, Community Heart Hospital, and the Indy Anderson Cancer Community Hospital.
Services will be held on Thursday, June 25,2026 at Indiana Funeral Home (1307 Shadeland Ave., Indianapolis, IN. 46219). Visitation will be from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. with a service at 6 p.m. The service will be officiated by Todd Townsend.
Roger’s family would like to thank the amazing staff (doctors, nurses, technicians, and physician assistants) of Community North Hospital and Anderson Community Cancer Center for their work and support through his cancer treatment and hospital stays.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Animal Protection League of Anderson, Indiana. This is a non-profit animal shelter that gives all animals a second chance for a new life. This is the shelter that the family has supported financial, by donations, fostering, and adoptions.
