Robert (Bob) Elsworth Deal – a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend was welcomed by God into heaven on March 30, 2023. Robert was born to John and Mildred Deal on August 25, 1946 in Indianapolis.

Robert was blessed with a close and loving family. He met his beloved wife to be, Mary, in 1976 and they were married on June 30, 1978. They were best friends and their romance lasted all 46 years. Robert’s one and only love, his devoted wife Mary, was by his side from the beginning through his last day and she never once wavered in her dedication and support for him. Robert and Mary were blessed with one son and two grandchildren.

Robert held many titles throughout his life. He worked over thirty years as a shipping coordinator for a large box factory in Indianapolis and ultimately retired from that post. Prior to that, he held many hats including used car salesman, furniture salesman, insurance salesman, and manager of a Long John Silvers. Robert volunteered to collect donations for the Salvation Army at Christmas. Robert was a giving man and always worked hard to do whatever necessary to support his family. He was known as a practical jokester and everyone who knew or worked with Robert always liked him and considered him a good man.

Out of the many roles Robert played in life, it was honoring his duties as a husband, father and grandfather that he most enjoyed and in which he took great pride. These titles do no justice when describing what Robert meant to his family. He was great with people and always had a sense for what his family and friends needed most during hard times. Robert had a quiet wisdom about him and was always a voice of reason for those close to him. He taught his family to be understanding and to always see things from a different perspective when necessary in order to help those in need. He was always there to listen and was an advisor of life lessons to his son and grandchildren.  He had a profound impact on his family and made everyone around him a better person. At all times, Robert watched over his family as protective husband, father and grandfather. He is now rejoined with his parents, siblings and his favorite dog, Sissy and undoubtedly doing what he loved most as he watches over and protects his family while in heaven.

Robert’s strength was unmatched, and he fought hard until his last day. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends and his absence will be felt by us all for a very long time. Robert is survived by his wife, Mary Ella Deal; his son, David Elsworth Deal; his grandchildren, Luke Elsworth Deal and Haley Nichole Deal; his two daughters from a previous marriage, formerly known as Melissa Deal and Stacy Deal; and his nephew Donnie Miller who was like a brother. Robert was predeceased by his mother and father (John and Mildred); and his siblings John Carter, Larry Carter and Anna Coogan.

A celebration of life will be held at a time to be determined at a later date.
