Listen to Obituary

Robert “Bob” Bishop of Greenfield IN, beloved husband, father, friend, and proud Navy veteran passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on November 15, 2025. While his time here ended sooner than any of us wished, he made sure to fill every mile of the journey with love, laughter, curiosity, and just the right amount of mischief.

Born in 1947 in Connersville, Indiana. He was quite active in scouting all his life and enjoyed watching his son and grandson attain Eagle Scout rank. He also participated in his daughter's scouting experience as she progressed to a Senior Scout. He was quite active in the Explorer Scout Post, Kunieh, that studied Native American culture and traditions. This led to his involvement with the Tecumseh Lodge. Bob worked for Amtrak for many years which led to his love of model railroading. A lifelong explorer at heart, he never turned down a chance to travel.

Bob lived a life rich with connections. He treasured his family above all else, and never missed a chance to brag about them. His friendships were many and varied: Navy buddies who shared sea stories (some true, some very well-embellished), the Native American community who welcomed him with open hearts, and friends and colleagues who quickly learned that once you met him, you were basically adopted.

Even in the toughest moments, Bob kept his humor. He had a way of easing heavy days with a well-timed joke, a gentle tease, or a story that somehow grew funnier every time he told it. His spirit was light, his heart was huge, and he made sure the people around him felt both.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Karen, children Rob (Misty)Bishop and Krissy (Dave) Carmer, grandchildren Morgan and Zack Bishop, his brother Pete (Kay) Bishop, many nieces and nephews, and cousins. They will forever cherish his guidance, goofiness, and love. Though we miss him deeply, we take comfort knowing he's traveling on—perhaps riding the rails somewhere, swapping tales with old friends, and watching over us with that familiar grin.

A celebration of his life will be held on November 29, 2025 at the Holiday Inn, Greenfield, 1-4 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a VA hospital of your choosing or the Richard Roudebush VA Medical Ctr, 1481 W. 10th St, Indianapolis 46202, Attn: Voluntary Services. With the designation that it is in memory of Robert (Bob) Bishop
