Rita Louise Spear

Rita Spear, a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully passed away on September 20, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter that will be cherished forever. Born on January 4, 1962, in Logansport, Indiana, Rita was the daughter of Robert Clements and Glorena Belle (Highland) Clements Goode. She was predeceased by her father, grandparents Firm and Edna (Williams) Highland, and her great-nephew Caiden Andrew Clements. Her memory will be lovingly carried forward by her mother, Glorena, and a large, devoted family.

Rita shared her life with her cherished twin sister, Lisa Kay Clements, and sisters, Kathleen Elma Clements and Karen Jeannette (Clements) Baker. She was blessed with three wonderful children, James Robert Spear, Jeffery Alan Spear, and Trisha Nicole Spear, who were the light of her life. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Candice Denise Grimes, James Robert Grimes, Kailey Lynnae Grimes, Joshua James Cope, Nevaeh Trensetta Spear, and Joseph Alan Spear, as well as her great-grandchildren, Aurea-Kanani, Eevee, Kuahiwi, and Oliver. Rita's extended family includes her nieces and nephews Tabitha Louise Sterrett, Jeremy Benton Sterrett, Matthew Robert Sterrett, Nicholas Andrew Clements, Ronald Dwayne Clements, Twila Lynn Clements, and Terry Lee Slavens.

Rita's journey through life was enriched by her marriage to Robert Ted Spear, with whom she built a loving family. She graduated from Decatur Central High School. She spent most of her career as a bartender at various establishments, including Scotty's Lounge, John Henry's Pub, Sakitumi, Mark's Pub, and Pam's Place. She took great pride in serving veterans at the LaVelle-Gossett VFW Post 908 until her retirement in 2024.

A proud and active member of the LaVelle-Gossett VFW Post 908, Rita dedicated her time to the community she loved. Her passions extended beyond work; she delighted in the simple joys of life such as swimming, fishing, camping, and participating in games like euchre, pool, bowling, corn hole, and we can't forget Crazy 8's. Rita had a deep love for travel and the ocean, often finding peace in watching sunrises and sunsets on the beach. Her greatest joy, however, came from spending time with her family and friends at parties, cookouts, and bonfires.

Rita was known for her kindness, quick wit, and warm smile, touching the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She was probably best known for her infectious laughter that captured everyone's attention, especially when her twin sister Lisa (affectionately nicknamed together as the "Twisters") would remind her that she was the older sister by 12 minutes. Rita would jokingly reply that you may be older but I’ll always be younger than you. They made everyone smile and laugh.

A celebration of Rita's life will be held on October 10, 2026, with Visitation from 12:00PM - 2:00PM with the service to follow at Indiana Funeral Care West, located at 5791 Rockville Road, Indianapolis, IN 46224.

Rita will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will be remembered for generations to come.
