Richard “Dick” Allen Tafflinger, Jr, 72, passed away peacefully at home with his children and family by his side. He was born on October 24, 1953 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Dick worked as a grocer. He began working at Preston Safeway right out of high school. He continued on to open his own store, ‘Stop and Shop,’ and finished his career working for Cub Foods and Kroger. In the grocery world, Dick was well known, and if your grocery store included Dick, your shelves were well stocked!
Dick loved camping with his family at Shakamak State Park. He began a yearly family tradition there over 20 years ago. Dick loved to travel every chance he could.
Dick was a proud member of Cataract Yacht Club, where he docked his houseboat. He loved spending time there and cherished all his moments with friends he considered to be family.
To know Dick was to know a friend. He genuinely only had love in his heart.
Dick is survived by his children, Vanessa (Kevin) McGuire, Sean (Nicole Fite) Tafflinger, Matthew (Brandy) Tafflinger, and Evan (Stephanie) Tafflinger; grandchildren, Blake, Devin, Forrest, Zoe, Emerson, Patrick, and Dalton; sisters, Annemarie (Blake) Hollingsworth and Maureen (Tom) Simmons; and many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Elizabeth Tafflinger; and his brother, Steve Tafflinger.
A celebration of life will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, May 8, 2026 at Speedway Christian Church, with a service at 5:15 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
