Richard Keith Shafer

Richard Keith Shafer, 72, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully at his home on June 22, 2026. He was born on May 4, 1954, in Anderson, Indiana.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, George Gerald Shafer and Glenna Lorene Shafer, and his brother, George Gerald Shafer Jr.

He is survived by his sister, Ann Shafer Hargate; his children, Christine Shafer Frugard (Christian Frugard), Jennifer Shafer Wilson (Nathaniel Wilson), and Richard Shafer; his cherished grandchildren, Charles, Lillian, Henry, Richard, Annabelle, and Christy; and his loving girlfriend, Sherry Davidson.

Richard loved spending time at the Jersey Shore, attending concerts, golfing, watching sports, and making memories with family and friends wherever he went. He enjoyed gathering with his children and grandchildren and treasured every opportunity to be together.

Becoming a grandfather was the greatest joy of Richard’s life. His six grandchildren quickly became the center of his world, and he cherished every moment spent with them. A devoted baseball fan, he rarely missed a game. Whether cheering from the stands or following along on GameChanger from miles away, Richard took immense pride in supporting his grandchildren and celebrating their accomplishments. He also had a special place in his heart for his beloved grand-dog, Rocky.

Richard will be remembered for his kind heart, his love of family, and the countless memories he created with those he loved. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on through the family and friends who were fortunate enough to know him.

A memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Indiana Funeral Care – South, 2433 E. Main Street, Greenwood, Indiana 46143. Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate Richard's life and share memories of the many lives he touched.
