Richard Carlisle Pedigo of Carmel, Indiana departed peacefully and surrounded by love on August 26, 2026.

Richard was born March 7, 1940 in Bowling Green Kentucky to Garland and Bonnie Pedigo, who both proceeded him in death. His elder brother Roy also proceeded him in death, and his sister Jeannie Cooley survives.

He also leaves behind his wife of 58 years Judith Pedigo (nee Powell), daughters Jennifer Hodel (Kristopher) and Julie Sampson (Peter), grandsons Conner and Luke Sampson, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.

His family moved from Bowling Green to Rushville, Indiana in 1949. During his youth he was active in band, where he played tuba and other brass instruments. As a child he sang duets with his sister and later performed in a barbershop quartet. He enjoyed biking, swimming, and worked as a lifeguard. He even went storm chasing with friends in rural Indiana. He also served in the United States Army Reserves as a sharpshooter.

In 1967, Richard went on a blind date with Judy, and six months later on June 8, 1968 they were married in Tell City, Indiana.

He attended Indiana University with his wife’s encouragement and genuinely loved the experience. He obtained a business degree three years later, graduating with honors, and went on to have a career in property management.

Richard was known for his love of the arts, reading and studying history, his gentle nature with animals and children, his curiosity and intelligence, and his skills with building and renovation. He loved having a house full of his daughters and their friends, many of which instead of referring to him as “Mr. Pedigo”, chose to call him “Dad”.

He was generous with his time and talents and always helped those in need whenever possible. He volunteered with both his daugthers’ band programs and loved attending his grandsons’ band concerts.

His family is devastated by his loss and will keep his memory alive. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, friend, and “the best G-Dad ever”. He is so loved and deeply missed.

Visitation will take place at Carmel United Methodist Church on Monday, September 14 2026 at 5:00pm, with a service to follow at 7:00pm.
