Richard Allen Mills, affectionately known as "Dick" or "The Big Toe," passed peacefully at home on February 9, 2026, in Indianapolis, Indiana, at the age of 89. Born on August 15, 1936, in Clinton, Indiana, Dick was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a cherished member of his community.

Dick pursued his education at Indiana State before embarking on a long and distinguished career with Indiana Bell, from which he later retired. Throughout his life, he exemplified dedication and service, contributing significantly to both his profession and local initiatives.

One of Dick's manifold passions was his involvement with Indiana Golden Gloves, where he dedicated over 50 years of service. He held various leadership positions, including serving on the board and as president for many years. His commitment to the organization and its mission has left an enduring impact on countless young athletes. Additionally, he was the organizer of the Clinton High School Memorial, further showcasing his dedication to giving back to his community.

Dick took immense pride in his family, particularly in marrying his beloved wife, Jane (Thornberry) Mills. Dick had four children: Amy Mills, David (Jennifer) Mills, Thomas (Lisa) Mills, Melissa (Chad) Swinford, and the grandchildren – Garrett, Helen, Liam, and Christian Mills, Viktoria Williams, Taylor Edwards, Logan, Rylee, Emery, Madigan, Annabelle, Jack, Eloise, Matthew, and Si Swinford. He is also survived by his brother Don Ray (Toni) Mills.

He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Plato and Helen (McNair) Mills, and his brother, Ronald.

As we remember Dick Mills, we celebrate a life filled with love, laughter, and community spirit. His legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him, and he will always hold a special place in the hearts of his family and friends.
