Richard Joseph “Dick” Mevzek, 87, of Alexandria, Indiana, died November 6, 2026, in Alexandria following complications from a stroke with his family surrounding him. Born January 3, 1939, in Alexandria, he spent his whole life in the community that he called home.

Dick was a 1958 graduate of Alexandria Monroe. He went on to build a remarkable banking career that reflected both steadiness and loyalty. For 33 years, he worked at the same location as the institution changed names from Commercial Banking Company to Alexandria Banking Company, then National City Bank, and now PNC Bank. While the name on the building changed over the years, Dick remained a constant presence for the people he served. He was known as the “friend to all farmers,” a description that captured the enduring relationships he built through decades of work.

Dick also gave many years of service to his country through the Indiana National Guard, where he served for 25 years and attained the rank of E6 Staff Sargent. His commitment to service extended beyond his military years. For several years, he volunteered with the Monroe Township Trustee office placing over 30 U.S. flags at I.O.O.F. Cemetery on every Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day and Veterans Day. He was also instrumental in the restoration project of the Veterans War Memorial at the cemetery, work that reflected his respect for those who served and for the memory of those who came before.

A lifelong member of St. Mary’s Church of Alexandria, Dick remained rooted in the faith community of his hometown throughout his life. Those who knew him also knew the values by which he lived. As his family shared, three words that sum up his life are GOD, Country and Family.

Dick was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting firearms, and attending gun shows. He was a member of the Alexandria Gun Club from the age of 18, a connection that continued across nearly his entire adult life and reflected one of his most lasting interests.

Richard is survived by his wife Kathryn of 58 years; children Julia "Julie" (David) Hutson, Joseph (Stacy) Mevzek, James (Jeff) Mevzek; grandchildren Brooke (Archie) Prince, Michael (Mariah) Lane, Christina (Travis G) Hutson, Taylor (Katie) Mevzek, Matt (Katelyn ) Mevzek, Hayley (Peyton) Watson, Carlos Vazquez; great-grandchildren Evelyn, Olivia, & Arya Prince, Hadley & Tatum Mevzek, Audrey Hiser, Maelynn Lohrey, Joseph Mevzek, Layna Murray, Waylon Lane & Blakely Watson; remaining family Diane & Rick Parent; brother/sister-n-laws Barbara Green, Paul & Marylou Rodriquez, Ray Collis and several nieces and nephews; close friends Vonnie, George & Jeep Crist, Tommy & Susan Thomas.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph J Mevzek & Bertha A (Marn) Mevzek, his brother George Mevzek and sister Betty Ann Mevzek.

A special thank you to the following for providing exceptional care during his final days: Alexandria Health & Rehab, Morrison Woods Health Campus, Community Hospice of Anderson and Jaylee Stansberry.
