It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Richard Johnson, age 60, of Indianapolis, IN, on April 21, 2026. Richard fought courageously and passed peacefully surrounded by family. Richard was born June 10, 1965 in Gary, IN, to Cecil and Lola Johnson. Richard graduated from Roosevelt High School and joined the Marines shortly after. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1987. While stationed in Hawaii he met the love of his life Bernice Manica. They married shortly after and shared 40 years of cherished memories, adventures, devotion, and love together. One of their favorite hobbies was going to the casino together. Their journey has changed form, but their love remains everlasting.

Richard spent the majority of his career at UPS. He also worked at Borders, DHL, and sold real estate. He took great pride in helping people find homes and create lasting memories. After retirement he became a chronic disease prevention instructor and supported participants through their cancer journey. His proudest roles were devoted husband, father, brother, and grandfather to his loving family. Richard always gave 100% in everything he did. He was a role model, support system, and inspiration to many colleagues he met throughout his careers. He was the best man you could have in your corner and he always uplifted everyone to be the best they could be. Richard loved to listen to the blues, rock & roll, rap, and gospel while driving his truck. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends playing pool, UNO, Scattegories, and going to his favorite restaurants. He will be remembered for his contagious laugh that lit up the room.

Richard is survived by his loving wife Bernice Johnson, daughter Desiree (Travis) Johnson, son Richard (Madde) Johnson, sister-in-law Samantha Johnson, grandchildren (Braeden, Gabrielle, Zyla, Lazarus, Isabelle, and Viana), his four-legged sidekick Oreo Johnson, in-laws, nieces & nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Cecil & Lola Johnson, and brother Charles Henry Johnson. 

As we gather to celebrate Richard's life, guests are invited to bring a copy of a favorite photo or written memory to be included in a memorial scrapbook keepsake. Family and friends are also welcome to share brief memories or reflections during the service. Those wishing to do so may inform Desiree Johnson in advance.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation on May 16, 2026 from 11 am to 12 pm at Indiana Funeral Home (8151 Allisonville Road). A celebration Of Life honoring Richard Johnson will follow immediately after. You are welcome to join the family for light refreshments and continued fellowship in the reception hall. 

In lieu of flowers, donations to support funeral expenses are sincerely appreciated. The family extends their gratitiude to everyone who reached out to express condolences, extend support, and uplift us during this difficult time. Richard will be truly missed and forever remembered by those who knew and loved him! Thank you from the family.
