Richard 'Rick' Curts Jr, was born on Friday, May 13, 1952 and went to heaven on Friday, March 13, 2026 at 5:13 a.m. Some people would be superstitious of that day but he would tell you he was blessed and cannot be cursed.
Rick leaves behind Linda, his high school sweetheart of 55 years. They were blessed to have 4 children: Kim Mattheussens, Carrie (Tom) Siegel, Kelli Davis and Mike (Caroline) Curts; twelve grandchildren: Alex, Eric, and Emma Siegel, Mischa and Orson Mattheussens, Becca Arbarca, Daniel, Micah, and Lucas Davis, and Henry, Maya and Franky Curts; and one great grandchild, Logan Abarca. He is also survived by siblings, Randy Curts, Myron (Deb) Curts and Lisa (Robert) Hawkins; several nieces and nephews; as well as mother-in-law, Gladys Parker, brothers-in-law, Larry (Sue) Parker, Robbie (Becky) Parker, and Rodney (Cathie) Parker.
His parents, Richard 'Dick' and Wanda Curts and son-in-law, Oliver Mattheussens, preceded him in death. Rick was born in Jay County, spent his childhood in the Gaston area and graduated from Wes-Del High School. Rick raised his family in the Benton County and Lafayette area, moved to California to be near grandchildren there and moved back to the Muncie area upon retirement.
Rick will be remembered as a man of many trades of sales throughout the years. He was known as the fertilizer man in Benton and surrounding counties in his early years. He transitioned to a man of faith, also sharing the love of Christ and letting others know what Jesus had done for him in changing his life. He was an evangelist, putting up tents and visiting small churches preaching the salvation message and encouraging others to do the same. He never met a stranger and always acknowledged their worth. His message was the same whether he was preaching in a tent, church or selling shop tools for 5 Star Shop Supplies in the Indiana, Illinois region. Later he would sells RVs in the Lafayette and San Jose California areas before retirement.
It was attributed to him as being the first to bring the internet to Benton and surrounding counties, as he was a cofounder of Localline Inc, an ISP, where he was manager, tech support, and billing manager in charge of it all in the new beginnings of it.
He was a storyteller of the things God had done for him. He believed the Promises and all the Blessings in the Bible were for him and his children, grandchildren, and their children behind them and told them that so they would believe also.
He will be missed and his legacy will continue on in his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Donations may be given to https://www.whcc.net/give suggestions are Food for Friends, Father's Heart ministry, and Missions-Widows and Orphans.
A Celebration of Life service and graveside service for the family will be planned for a later date.
