Rev. Charles E. Slayton of West Plains, MO passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 28, 2026, surrounded by his loving wife, Charlotte, and his children and family.
Charles was born on July 9, 1943, in Westmoreland, Tennessee, to Rev. Odell and Edith Slayton. He later moved with his family to Indianapolis, Indiana, where he attended Manual High School. Charles met his beloved wife, Charlotte, while attending Cruft Street Church of God of Prophecy, and they were united in marriage on February 14, 1964.
Charles was a devoted lifelong member of the Church of God of Prophecy for over 80 years. He began his pastoral ministry in 1975 and faithfully served for more than 30 years. During that time, he pastored congregations in Peoga, Indiana; Greenwood, Indiana; Fayette, Alabama; Phil Campbell, Alabama; Greenfield, Indiana; Brownsburg, Indiana; and Anderson, Indiana.Charles also built a long and successful career in the electrical supply industry, working in the Indianapolis area for over 30 years. Throughout his career, he served with Watson-Flagg, W.L. Flemming Electric, Moran Electric Service, Baker Wholesale Electric, CED Electrical Supply, and All Phase. He was known for his strong work ethic, reliability, and the relationships he built with colleagues and customers alike.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Odell and Edith Slayton, and his sister, Nancy Slayton.
Charles is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Charlotte Slayton of West Plains, Missouri; his children: Jerry (Rhonda) Slayton of Indianapolis, Indiana; Stephanie (Jeff) Casner of Bloomington, Illinois; and Greg (Missy) Slayton of West Plains, Missouri.He is also survived by his grandchildren: Demi Hoskins, Jessica (Derrek) Staton, Dara Hoskins, Caleb Slayton, Tiffany Casner, and Jessica Casner; and his great-grandchildren: Layla Emberton, Daisy Emberton, Leland Hoskins, Brooks Hoskins, Delilah Staton, Waylon Barnett, Lincoln Hoskins, and River Smith.
Services for Charles will be held on April 7, 2026, at Indiana Funeral Care, 2433 E Main St, Greenwood, IN 46143. A private viewing for family will begin at 4:00 PM, with open visitation at 5:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 7:00 PM.Charles will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his love for his family, and his lifelong dedication to ministry.
