Reba Eileene (Comer) Mezzano, passed away on November 21, 2023 after a brave battle with Dementia.
Reba was born on September 17, 1937 in Indianapolis, Indiana to parents Roland and Fairie (Snowden) Comer, and is proceeded in death by her parents, husband Dr. Arthur Twersky, husband John A. Mezzano, Chief Petty Officer, Retired U. S. Navy and brother, William Comer.
She is survived by her 6 children, June (Charles) Arwine, Terry Boring, Harry (Kelli) Schmink, Linda (Jack) Cunningham, Ellie (Patti) Schmink and Suzanne (Rolf) Meisterhans, 11 Grandchildren, 15 Great Grandchildren and Sisters Anna Sosbe and Kay Hayes.
Reba was a 1954 graduate of Ben Davis High School. As a mother of 6 she supported her family by working many jobs as they were growing up. She found a career starting as a call center reservation representative for USAIR. She worked her way through many positions within USAIR before retiring as a manager for the organization. One of Reba’s proudest accomplishments while there was when she was able to convince management that the office environment should be non-smoking. She was truly a woman ahead of her time.
She lived in the Midwest her entire life until after the death of her husband Arthur, when she took a leap of faith and moved to Anchorage Alaska. It was in Anchorage where she met her to be husband John and together they traveled Alaska, and much of the United States in an RV camper. Eventually landing in their dream home at Heritage Lake in Coatesville, In.
Reba was actively involved in the League of Women Voters, leading the organization as President in both Indiana and Alaska. She loved to play Bridge, was a veracious reader, worked daily to complete multiple newspaper crossword puzzles and loved to dote on her rescue cats Dutch and Gracie. Reba’s true legacy resides in her children and grandchildren. She was a fiercely independent woman and instilled in them her strength, tenacity and independence. Her spirit and love will forever live on in the hearts and minds of her family.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 28th from 2:00 to 3:30, service will follow at 3:30 at Indiana Funeral Care, 8151 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, In. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Dementia Society of America
