Ralph William Taylor SR., affectionately known as "SMOKE," passed away on August 28, 2025, at Eskenazi Hospital. Born on July 11, 1932, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Ralph was a cherished member of his community and a dedicated family man.
Ralph enjoyed a fulfilling career, professionally serving as a Paramedic at Wishard Hospital and also contributing his efforts at the Boys School. His commitment to helping others was evident throughout his life, underscored by his four years of service in the United States Army, where he served as an Airman.
An alumnus of Pike High School, Ralph possessed a kind and welcoming personality, always ensuring those around him felt at ease. He had a remarkable sense of humor that brought joy to gatherings, particularly memorable were the moments shared with friends at his CB clubhouse, where laughter filled the air.
Ralph's passions extended beyond his professional life; he loved to travel and was an enthusiastic CB radio enthusiast, connecting with countless others and sharing stories along the way. His pride in his entrepreneurial spirit led him to own Club 11 in Indianapolis and Bates Travel Agency in Las Vegas, accomplishments that he cherished deeply.
He leaves behind a loving family: his companion, Delia Berryman; His sons, Eric Taylor (Irene), Ralph Taylor Jr. (Linda) and Kenneth Taylor (Jessica); daughters, Rachael Taylor (Wendy) and Angela Keita (Herman); his sister, Maryann Brooks; niece, Sherry Hawkins (Ryan); nephews, Charles Bruce (Celeste) and Tony Bruce (Nina); and his cousin, Rena Hunter. Ralph has a total of 19 Grandchildren; 23 Great-grandchildren; and 2 Great -Great Grandchildren; along with a host of family and friends. Ralph's legacy will live on through their memories and the values he instilled in them.
Ralph is preceded in death by his dear parents, Edmond Gardner and Lena Gardner; as well as his beloved granddaughter, Tequila Bailey. Though he has departed from this world, the warmth of his spirit and the laughter he shared will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who knew him.
