Quentin Dreyfus Matthews, 38, passed away on October 6, 2026. Born December 26, 1987, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Quentin carried with him a spirit that drew people close—steady in kindness, warmly remembered, and marked by a quiet courage and curiosity that shaped the way he moved through the world. Though life asked much of him, he met it with a generous heart and a sense of humor that could lighten a room and ease a heavy moment. Quentin graduated from the Hair Academy in New Carrollton, Maryland, where he earned a diploma in Level 2 Professional Barbering. He was currently a state licensed Barber in Indiana and held a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) for Merchant Mariner roles that reflected both his dedication to his craft and his readiness to take on new paths with confidence and purpose.
Quentin is survived by his mother, LaRoseia Matthews; his aunts, Clementine (Otis) Stevenson, Lucretia Matthews, and Gardenia (Lewis) Goodwin; his uncles, Walter Matthews Jr., Bernard (Deborah) Matthews, LTC Roderick (Monica) Matthews, Antwine (Sandra) Matthews; and HM2 Theodore (Davetta) Matthews; along with many other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, PFC Walter G Matthews and Clotell S. Matthews; his uncle, Ferrell Matthews, Sr.; his great grandmothers, Mable Muldrow Matthews and Lanie Dozier; and his great grandfathers, Henry Matthews and Willie Dozier.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2026 at Union Baptist Church, Salters, South Carolina.
