Phyllis Ann Freeman

Phyllis Ann Freeman, lovingly known to all as “Mima,” passed peacefully on October 22, 2025, at the home of her daughter, surrounded by the family she so dearly loved. She was 91 years old.

Born on November 6, 1933, in Mt. Comfort, Indiana, Phyllis was the cherished daughter of Augustus “Howard” Breeden and Romala Burrows. From a young age, her kind heart and steadfast spirit shone through—a light she carried throughout her long and remarkable life.

Phyllis attended seminary school for two years, where she nurtured her deep sense of faith and compassion. On August 30, 1957, she married the love of her life, Robert E. J. Freeman, beginning a partnership built on laughter, devotion, and perseverance. Together, they raised a family grounded in love, humility, and a belief in the goodness of people.

She worked for many years as a transcriber at DeHaven Engineering, where her keen mind, diligence, and warm smile made her a treasured colleague. A proud Democrat, Phyllis believed strongly in fairness, community, and caring for one another—values she lived every day.

But beyond her career and convictions, Phyllis’s greatest joy was her family. To her children, grandchildren, and generations that followed, she was more than a mother or grandmother—she was the heart of the home. Her door was always open, her kitchen always warm, and her arms always ready to embrace anyone in need. To know Mima was to know unconditional love.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Freeman; her sons Mark Freeman and Kirk Freeman; her grandson Sebastian Bowman; her parents Howard and Romala; and her siblings Charles, Jean, and Joan.

Phyllis’s legacy continues through her devoted daughter Kathy; her grandchildren Tabitha, Christina, Lacy, and Brandon; her great-grandchildren Devin, Raymond, Jesse, Jada, Breylie, Nikee, and Markell; and her great-great-grandchildren Penelope, Phoenix, Luna, and Sol. She also leaves behind her “unicorn soulmate,” Sierra Price, who brought light, laughter, and a special kind of magic into her later years.

Phyllis Ann Freeman lived a life rich with love, kindness, and quiet strength. Her spirit will live on in every heart she touched and in every open door that welcomes someone in need—just as she always did.

Her family invites all who loved her to celebrate her extraordinary life and carry forward her legacy of compassion, humor, and generosity.
