Paul Allen Stone, 93, of Indianapolis, Indiana, peacefully passed away on July 2, 2026. Born in Springfield, Illinois, on July 7, 1932, Paul lived a life marked by dedication to his country, commitment to his community, and an enduring love for his large, blended family.
A man of many talents and passions, Paul had a lifelong love for the skies and was a licensed pilot, finding true joy and freedom in aviation. When he was on the ground, he possessed a sharp mind and a patient spirit, spending countless hours contentedly working on complex puzzles.
A proud veteran, Paul honorably served his country in the United States Air Force. His dedication to service extended into his civilian life as a Mason at Millersville Lodge, where he embraced the values of fellowship, charity, and integrity.
Paul was preceded in death by his mother Marie Stone, his father Carroll Stone, his brothers Ken Stone; wife Ruby Stone; Jean Roberts (Wayne); Robert Stone; Jim Stone; wife Shirley Stone; first wife, Doris Alma Stone; his second wife, Mary Ann Stone; his beloved son, Lee Allen Stone; and son in law Randy Mattice.
He leaves behind a rich legacy of love and is survived by his devoted partner, Elinor Kasden; his sister Marjorie Stout. He is also survived by his daughter, Lynette Marie Mattice; his stepdaughters; Kathleen Nestor and Karen Moore; and his five step-sons.
Paul’s joy multiplied through his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is fondly remembered by his granddaughter, Kellie Marie Mattice, and her fiancé, Cody Dale Sanders; his grandson, Paul Jared Mattice, and his fiancé, Annita Hill. He was the proud great-grandfather of Keyli Asenath Sanders, Tut Lee Paul Hicks III, Jax Leon Hicks, Lucas Paul Mattice, and Randy Lee Mattice.
Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate Paul's life. Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 11th, beginning at 12:00 PM at Indiana Funeral Care East, 1307 N. Shadeland Ave. Indianapolis, IN 46219. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00 PM, officiated by Pastor Bob McMillen, alongside a traditional Masonic Service and military honors recognizing his Veteran status. Paul's final resting place will be in Irish Grove cemetery in Middletown, Illinois.
