Patrick Gene Linquist, age 75, of Carmel, Indiana, passed away September 9, 2026, after a brave journey through Alzheimer’s. Pat was born on April 19, 1951, to Howard Eugene (Gene) and Doris (Maxine) Linquist in Gary, Indiana, where he grew up enjoying the Indiana Dunes of Lake Michigan in his Miller beach neighborhood. He graduated from William Wirt High School where he discovered his life-long passion for both instrumental and choral music and then went on to study at Indiana State University.

On April 29, 1973, Pat married his “one and only,” Janet Ryals, and as a young couple, they soon settled in the Indianapolis area. With the arrival of their son Todd, Pat embraced fatherhood with joy, sharing many of his interests, especially his love of cars. At last count, he had owned twenty-eight cars during the course of his married life. Pat’s family grew in a most wonderful way with the addition of his dear daughter-in-law Olivia. With the arrival of his granddaughters Gabriella and Greta, he became their “Grampy” and they became his delight.

Pat’s interests reflected his heart and his spirit. His faith was put into action with many years of faithful membership at Union Chapel United Methodist Church in Indianapolis where he served on the Church Council and the building committee. He was involved in various service activities including a mission trip to North Dakota, the men’s breakfast gatherings, and his best-loved area of service, the music ministry. Hearing Pat’s beautiful bass in the sanctuary of Union Chapel was a moving experience,

one that he hoped would bring glory to God. Currently, Pat was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church in Indianapolis whose congregation faithfully kept him in their hearts and prayers. He was also a member and past president of the local chapter of the Sertoma Club. A highlight of his service with this group was fund-raising for equine therapy that was devoted to children with disabilities.

At six-foot-four-inches, Pat liked the challenge of golf, but he truly excelled on the dance floor. From square dancing in their early days of marriage to ballroom dancing in their senior years, Pat and Janet were an elegant duo. Together they were also faithful Colts fans, wearing their blue and cheering them on. Playing cards with friends was one of Pat’s favorite pastimes because he valued friendship. Time spent with Pat was full of fun and laughter. He truly embodied the adage, “To have a friend, you must be a friend.” He treated his friends like family in his generosity, his kindness, his affection, his faithfulness, his humor, and his open-door policy. Indeed, to have Patrick Linquist as your friend was to have a friend for life.

Pat is survived by his wife Janet, son Todd (Olivia), and granddaughters Gabriella and Greta Linquist; sister Dianna (Craig) Johnson, nephews Troy Johnson and Corey (Kristi) Johnson of Houston, Texas; sister-in-law Debora Olejniczek and niece Jeannette (Ramiro) Alcocer Olejniczek of Avon, Indiana; and multiple great-nieces and great-nephews.

Pat’s family would like to extend their heart-felt gratitude to the staff of Carmel Health and Living Memory Care Community as well as to the staff of Legacy Hospice. Thank you for the daily care, the evident affection, and for knowing that Pat loved to sing and dance.

Pat’s funeral will be at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Epworth United Methodist Church, 6450 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, IN 46220 with Pastor Rodney Frieden officiating. Visitation will also be at the church on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Epworth United Methodist Church or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
