Patricia “Patty” Joan Scranton, 74 of Indianapolis, passed away on March 6, 2026 peacefully in her home, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born June 30, 1951 in Marion, Indiana, the daughter of Charles Shafer and Joan (Callahan) Shafer. On June 11th, 1983, she married the love of her life - Richard Alan Scranton, who still survives. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend and childcare provider to dozens of children over the course of almost 40 years.
Patty was a graduate of Marion High School and was the featured baton twirler for her school’s marching band. After meeting and marrying her husband Rick in the early 80’s, they moved to Indianapolis where she had a quick stint in the corporate world before starting her very own childcare business - bringing in kids from the neighborhood and community to care for and love as if they were her own. Her truest joys in life were family, traveling, cooking, singing and dancing in the kitchen, baking her famous homemade pies, and being surrounded by the love of family, friends and the kids she cared for. She will be remembered for her contagious laugh and infectious smile that was brought to life the most when she was with her grandchildren.
Patty fought brain cancer for just over 3 years with undeniable strength, resilience and positivity. Her constant hope and courage were such an inspiration to those around her and no matter what, the smile on her face never faded.
Along with her husband Richard, she is survived by her three children, Susy (John) Masterson, EJ (Mandy) Flores, and Sarah (Doug) Davis; her eight grandchildren, Alexandra Powers, Abigail Powers, Max Powers, Zoey Flores, Avery Flores, Harrison Davis, Brooks Davis and Noah Davis; her sister Sherry Owens and her brother Charles Shafer.
Patty is preceded in death by her parents.
