Pamela Pickett

April 30, 1961 — May 17, 2025

Pamela Jean Kays Pickett, Plainfield, Indiana, passed from her Earthly bonds into her eternal Heavenly home, on a fittingly sunny Saturday, May 17th, 2025, surrounded by her loving family and close friends. Pam was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on April 30th, 1961, the youngest of seven children to parents Clifford and Ann Kays.

Pam grew up in the Mars Hill neighborhood of Indianapolis and attended the Decatur Central School District. She is always remembered as a bravely adventurous, animal-loving child. She loved all living creatures, but was especially fond of horses, and dogs of all types. She was certain that all of God's animals were deserving of human love and concern. She spent untold hours rearing and raising litters of puppies and enjoyed thirty-five years of sharing her life with mutts, Collies and German Shepherd dogs. Most especially Sinbad, Brix and Dodger, who shared her property and many family vacations at the Venice Dog Beach Park.

Pam was baptized at an early age, and was confident in her Christian beliefs and faith in God that would deliver her into His Heavenly Kingdom. She was known to speak truths and was plain-spoken and outgoing with her opinions. She will also be remembered for her happy smile, her gravelly voice and laugh. But mostly for her piercing blue eyes, which shone brightly when she would speak proudly of her love for her family, her children and her grandchildren.

Pam met her husband, father of her children, and the love of her life Martin E. "Marty" Pickett, in the Spring of 1979, just before her 18th birthday. They were married on May 28th, 1981, in Indianapolis. Marty survives to cherish all of the memories of their lives together. Their marriage was blessed with two beautiful and loving children. Son, Matthew E. Pickett, Indianapolis. Daughter Cendel L. Thompson, and her husband Jason, Jacksonville, Florida. Pam's three grandchildren became the light and love of her life, and were her source of pride, joy and comfort. Mason A. Stringer, Nolan E. Thompson and Emerson P.L. Thompson will carry on "Mamaw's" gifts of sharing, loving and giving in her memory.

Pam was employed for many years at Wishard Memorial Hospital, in the Mail Room and in the Accounts/Finance Departments.

Pam was proceeded in death by her parents, Clifford and Ann Kays, her in-laws, L. James and Patricia Pickett, and her sibling’s sister Deborah Kays Wessel, sister Sharon Kays Sugg and brother Mark Kays. She is survived by her brother Leland Sibole, sister Linda Kays Dalton, and sister Brenda Kays Honeycutt. Along with many, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Pam's family and friends will hold fond memories of her passions for gatherings with them, her love of the beach and family vacations, her delight in her care for her dogs, her admiration for the sassiness of Disney's Tinkerbell. Her happiness at the sound of her windchimes, the presence of butterflies and cardinals. Her joy of theme parks with her grandbabies. In accordance with Pam's and family's wishes, her corneas were gifted that they might provide sight. Pamela Jean Kays Pickett was cremated, and she will be placed on Venice Reef, Venice, Florida, to join her Mother-In-Law, her Father-In-Law, and eventually her husband Marty.

There will be a grand celebration of Pam's life at a future date, which will be announced via family and friends’ social media. The family wishes to thank, with all of our hearts, the ICU staff at IU West Hospital for their loving care for Pam, and to Indiana Funeral Care for handling arrangements. “Allow the light and the healing presence of Christ to shine brightly through your lives. In that way, all those who come in contact with you will discover the loving kindness of God."

- St. Pope John Paul II
