Padma Ellur, 78, of Carmel, IN, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2026 with her family at her side, after a courageous battle with Progressive Supranuclear Pasley, a rare neurodegenerative disease.

Born on June 19,1948 in Kyalanur, India, she was one of 9 children. She married Venkat Ellur in 1967, and they immigrated to the US and the Indianapolis area in 1968. Together, they built a life centered on family, faith and community, establishing long-term relationships with people in Indianapolis that became family. In addition to her professional experiences, she was a very active member of the Indian Community of Indianapolis for many years.

More than anything, Padma was known for her kindness, hospitality, generosity and strength, as she never met a stranger. She was the “hostest with the mostest”, and loved hosting and spending time with family and friends. She also loved cooking, gardening, crafts of all kinds, Indian dance and exercising. She enjoyed traveling around the US and the world, especially her extended trips in India to visit family. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, avva, aunt and friend.

She is survived by her daughters Uma Staehler (David) and Usha Hecht (Greg), granddaughters Rani Hecht and Nina Hecht, three siblings in India and a large extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Venkat, her parents Venkata and Lakshmi Setty, and six of her siblings.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the caregivers at Sunrise Senior Living, Paradigm Health and Rose Senior Living for their loving care.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 11 at the Indiana Funeral Care Noth, 8151 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis from 1-3pm, followed by a funeral service from 3-4pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cure PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy).
