Noretta Ringen

July 11, 1937 — October 24, 2023

Noretta Ringen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and dear friend to many.  On October 24, 2023, she left this world and entered the arms of Jesus.  She will be missed most for her warm smile and kind words.  In her worst pain, she never hesitated to express a “thank you” to all who attended her.

Born July 11, 1937, in Indianapolis, Noretta was cared for by foster families.  She found the most love and care with the McGinnis and Badgley families.  Through the years she remained connected with some of her siblings (Ben, Elzie, Mary, and Fran) and shared a sister-like bond with some of her foster siblings.

Noretta met her husband, Joseph D. Ringen, while working at Roadway.  They married on December 9, 1955, and celebrated 67 years together, until Joe’s passing in January, of 2022.  Children and spouses include Sally Renae Thorne (Tim), Debra Jo Fields (Joe), George David Ringen and Joseph Aaron Ringen.  Joe and Noretta were also blessed with six grandchildren, Holli, Carrie, Chris, Lauren, MacKenzie and Celina, as well as ten great grandchildren.

Noretta worked for most of her life up to the age of 62.  Her longest tenure was at Mason & Dixon Truck Lines and then eventually retired from Firestone Building Products.

Traveling to anywhere there was water or visiting the beautiful mountains of Tennessee was among her favorite times.  She could sit for hours catching the ocean breeze and listening to the crashing waves.  But all who knew her well would say her favorite pastime was simply eating out with anyone she could get to join her.  And of course, she always had to pay.

Noretta’s faith and love for the Lord was the core of her life.  As a long-time member of Capital City Baptist Church, she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, mentored many, and worked tirelessly ‘behind the scenes’ to assist in whatever capacity needed.  Her godly example and witness led many to the Lord.  What a reunion in heaven it was for those who passed before her.  And a precious reunion awaits for those remaining who’ve been touched by this angel.

Noretta was preceded in death by her husband, all siblings, and two great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2023 from 10am-12pm at Indiana Funeral Care, Greenwood Chapel. Funeral service will immediately follow at 12pm, officiated by Tim Thorne.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Capital City Baptist Church at 1002 W. Edgewood Avenue, Indianapolis.
