Nancy Kay Westerman, a devoted wife, beloved mother, adoring grandmother, cherished friend, and beautiful soul, passed away on the evening of Tuesday, November 11th, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She spent her final days surrounded by those she loved unconditionally.
Born on November 7th, 1954, in Fort Wayne, IN, Nancy grew into a woman known for her kindness, formidable strength, and unwavering love for her family and friends. She experienced a great tragedy in her youth when she lost her father at age 11. It hardened her resilience and instilled in her a deep sense of family, nurturing the caring soul she carried throughout her life. She dedicated herself to helping others and, as a teacher, influenced the next generation of students to be the best versions of themselves, both in and outside the classroom. Her spirituality and compassion were matched only by her passion for serving others.
After 30+ dedicated years with the Indianapolis Public School system, Nancy spent her retirement as an avid reader with her beloved book club, traveling with her husband, John, and family, and spending as much time as she could with her grandchildren, with whom she shared an incredibly special bond.
She is survived by her spouse, John; her children, Kylee and Blake; her siblings, Becky, John, Sue, and Mark; her son-in-law, Andrew; and her grandchildren, Harper, Ellie, and Cooper. All of her family and friends will forever treasure the light and love she poured into their lives.
Nancy’s life was a guiding light for how to love those around you, and her memory will continue to live in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. She has been reunited with loved ones long missed, and finally gets to hug her father, mother, and brother again after many long awaited years.
A private, family-only memorial service will be held to celebrate her life, share memories, and honor the beautiful legacy she leaves behind.
